Everything in its own time
I have been off work since January. That was not the plan, but that is how it went. Here is what the slower path taught me.
Officially an amateur powerlifter
I recently competed in my first WRPF Great Britain powerlifting competition, finishing with a 495kg total and placing 2nd overall in my class. What makes this result meaningful isn't just the numbers; it's the journey behind it.
Careers are only part of the legacy we leave
Every role we hold is temporary. Organisations continue to evolve long after we move on, and we each contribute for a period of that journey. But the legacy that lasts is built outside of work too.
Maximising your value
To maximise your value, you have to commit fully to the work. That means putting in the time, showing up consistently, and accepting that value isn't always something you can measure in numbers.
Forward ever, backward never
After three years at IDHL, today was my last day. A chapter of real growth, lasting friendships, and work I'm genuinely proud of. Here's what I'm taking with me.
Allyship in Tech
How can we build products for a diverse world, yet still hesitate to collaborate with and invest in diverse talent? I attended an allyship event in Leeds and came away with a lot to reflect on.
Discipline is the key to unlocking long-term value
The small, consistent actions you take every day are building something far bigger than you realise. It all starts with discipline.
Just be you; that's where your real value is
I spent time feeling like more should be coming my way. It took me a while to realise I was asking the wrong question.
Winning is never done alone
The wins I'm most proud of didn't happen in isolation. They happened because of the people around me; some I expected, some I didn't.
Eat that frog
We all know what eat that frog means. But knowing it and actually doing it are two very different things.
What is wealth to me
For me, having the most money was never the goal. Having enough money to give you time; that's the real goal. Turning 44 made me reflect on what wealth actually means.
Why does it have to be this hard?
At the end of another brutal challenge, Kate asked the question we were both thinking. My answer surprised even me — but it was the truth.
The power of saying yes
I ended up on a four-hour hike because I said yes to something I wouldn't usually do. That one decision reminded me what growth actually feels like.
I witnessed a murder
I saw a murder happen right in front of me, and the most unexpected thing took place. Most people, when they hear "murder," think crime. But what do you see?
There is beauty in the struggle
Everyone loves an underdog story. But the beauty of the struggle isn't in how it ends — it's in the grinding-to-make-it phase.
Is the path less traveled better?
We make choices every day, and some are more difficult than others. Do you ever wonder what happens when you take the path less traveled?
You are your biggest competitor
Mindset and motivation can slip when you don't recognise the moments that truly test them. This is about one of those moments.
Celebrating 40 as a better version of me
I made a decision: to look and feel the best I ever have in my life. Little did I know what that statement would mean in a pandemic with no gym and no personal trainer.
Junior Developer to Pod Lead in 4 Years - My Unconventional Journey
Unconventional career journey, looking back 4 years after joining the team at JH.
How the JH team celebrated Black History Month
I wanted to write a little about this month, in particular, October the month in the UK where we celebrate Black History.
Diversity vs Inclusion
The talk will focus on the generational wealth gap and how this facilitates a difference in circumstances between different races.
We don't tell people how we feel
We don't tell people how we feel and why we feel that way. So, here goes:
The two hardest things
There's a famous quote in programming about the two hardest things. But the hardest thing I faced that day wasn't technical.
What I took from CSS Day
CSS Day in Amsterdam was two days of talks that challenged how I think about design, code, and the craft behind both.
Rich Dad Poor Dad
Wealth isn't measured by how much money you earn. It's measured by what you do with it.
